I am going to do all my powerlifting posting on my other blog because I am getting tired of logging in and out with two different blogs. Time management. So you will have to weed through and tolerate my philosophies if you want to get any power info:

The problem with lifting weights is that it raises your natural test level and sometimes turns you into an jerk.  O well, it sure beats golf.  No wonder I refuse to take steroids.  Last time I tried them I went off on the security guard and it cost me my job.  They just didn't have any sense of humor I guess.  Silly me.   But then again one security guard is better then a thousand pagan's with a jawbone.

I certainly do not eat like a bodybuilder would.  Some of those guy's are totally insane.  I am only partially insane so I eat the "sea food diet" and it shows.  However, there are an extremely limited amount of supplements I believe in and I need to start reminding myself of these.  One of them are flax seeds (not the oil).  I kind of think whatever is closer to nature is always better.  And I always buy in bulk without a label.

"Flax seed is one of the best sources for the essential fatty acid alpha linolenic acid. Alpha linolenic acid is so important for bodybuilders because it "enhances insulin sensitivity within muscle cells." (1) This omega-3 fatty acid also has many other beneficial effects:

"Stimulating steroid production Systemization of hormones Mediating immune response Directing endocrine hormones to target cells Regulating smooth muscle and autonomic reflexes Construction of healthy cell walls Transportation of oxygen to body cells Keeping saturated fats mobile in the blood stream Regulation of nerve transmission Serving as the primary energy source for the heart muscle" (2)

Those are just some of the beneficial effect of Omega-3. Omega-3's are sometimes defined as "anti-fats". This is due to their ability to speed up the metabolic process and aid in fat loss.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!  It is very strange to see your 1 rep strength increase without using heavy weight but with high repetition dynamic/ballistic lifting with light weight.  Strange but very true, after testing my bench press wendesday night.  Sometimes I think anything is possible when you are willing to experiment, step out of the norm of lifting orthodoxy, and listen to your body instictively.  I have the feeling this is going to be a good winter.

20 Rep Squats

squat

Everyone knows the old time tested 20 rep squat routine does miracles for putting on muscle, pushing your endurance through the roof, and sparking your metabolism like a western wildfire so you can eat a horse.

I have been applying this principle to my deadlift lately with almost steroid like results.  My body was so use to low reps that these high rep deadlifts are sparking me back to growth that I have not seen in years.  I would assume in a couple more weeks I will be easlily at 235, if I am not there already thanks to high rep deadlifts.

Funny thing is, I have been using literally baby weights and not going anywhere close to failure with great results.  I personally do not think it is wise to go to absolute failure with 20 rep squat/deadlifts, because of the increase chances for injury as a result of form breakdown when you are in the pain zone.  Anyhow they work and work fantastic.

You can find hundred's of articles on this subject:
